Months ago I started a list of Ethan's "skills" but every time I went to post it I though of new things. I am now going to post it, even though I am sure I am missing quite a bit. I want to make sure I keep track of his progress for future reading. This is a lot of info and I don't really expect many of you to care enough about Ethan's progress to read all of this. :)
Ethan says: uh oh, mom-mom, dada, daddy, hi, hello, thank you, all done, nana, papa, ow, up, cereal, e-i-e-i-o, water (wawa) and shoes with enough accuracy for anyone to understand.
Sound effects: lion, cat, bee, snake, cars/trucks, sheep, horse, bass drum, cow, bird, monkey, gorilla, but many of them he only whispers.
Less recognizeable/frequent words: kiwi, outside, yes, love you, amen, vroom vroom, swing, there it is.
He signs: more, please, thank you, book, again, water, baby, milk, stop, go, shoes, fan, cracker, hi and bye, attempts to count with voice and fingers, all done, where is it (arms up in questioning pose), cereal, balloon, flower, bug, sad, cry, moon, bread, cloud, rain, day, pear, apple, carrot, baby signing time, outside, phone, and more I'm sure I'm forgetting (pretty much any of them from Baby Signing Time).
Body parts he can identify: head, hair, eyes, nose, chin, ears, tongue, tummy, hands, fingers, toes, feet.
Songs: He does the actions to Here is the Beehive, Shake Your Sillies out, If You're Happy and You Know It (including throwing his hands up for hooray), Open Shut Them, Wheels on the Bus.
Quirks: It's hard to see what he knows because he doesn't like performing; he just does what he wants to do. He frequently puts his fingers almost in a fist and then sniffs them loudly; he spontaneously starts laughing loudly during church when he sees Mike on the stand; he loves puppets even though he knows how to work them; he loves his blankies and gnaws on the corners, he puts his hand in his sleeve or under his blanket and says "hello" as he makes a puppet; he has 4 top and 2 bottom teeth, and one molar on each side, for a total of 10 teeth; he now carries matching shoes around when he wants to go out; he "counts" himself off before going down a slide; when we pray together, he folds his arms and then mumble until I say amen. He has also started "singing" by very loudly and continuously babbling. At church he does this while
waving his arm to direct the music (Mike is the chorister).
Rule following: he likes to put things away where they belong. Also, anytime I take a crayon or pen away I tell him "we only use those at the table." He rarely fights me on it. Today he found crayons in his church bag, took them out, climbed up on the kitchen chair, and started coloring on the table itself.
Other: he has started bringing me things he knows he shouldn't have, he has discovered how to stick fingers up his nose, but hasn't made it a habit yet. When Mike gets home, it is not rare for Ethan to cry if I come anywhere near him (Ethan). He also does this when I open the door to get him after a nap and he was hoping it would be Mike. I then have to read a few books to him from outside his crib until he lets me pick him up. :) Ethan LOVES toys. He can play on his own with toys for hours at a time. This is especially helpful when I go to exercise classes at the church or, like last Saturday, when I have a Primary activity and he entertains himself for the whole two hours.
Videos: Remember me mentioning how he loves toys, excuse the mess please.
Ethan doing the actions to
The Wheels on the Bus. You can also hear a not so clear version of his "eieio" at the beginning.
Ethan asking for his favorite movie, "Baby Signing Time".
Ethan signing bug and moon (included because it makes me laugh).
